This book wildly oscillates between being 2 stars and 4 stars for me, so I averaged out the rating. People really love this book, and I understand why. Andy Weir has really mastered using tension and keeping you constantly guessing, wanting to find out the next piece of the astrophage puzzle. The science is written in an understandable way. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the humor and dialogue that Weir writes is.. painful. I hardly could get through the first 5 or so chapters of this book with its Marvel movie-esque “Well, that just happened” quips. The book excels at tense action, and I do love the relationship between Grace and
Rocky
, but I wouldn’t  reccomend this if you’re looking for complex or interesting characters.

Wow, two five star reads in a row! I have been putting this book off since it debuted and omg what was I waiting for?! This book gave me so many feelings. I laughed, I cried, I gasped, I was so invested.
My love for Rocky is unending. I would die for that little dude.
I loved it so much I am actually rereading parts of it already, and I rarely reread books. If you've also been putting off reading this one, please bump it up in your list. It's so worth it!

At about the halfway point of the Hail Mary Project, I knew exactly how it was going to end. I knew all the beats it was gonna hit. And I still enjoyed every minute of it.

Comforting, almost to the point of being saccharine. But like. Just so good.

It's like if you took the intellectual, self-serious 2010's sci-fi movies (Interstallar, Arrival, Oblivion, Gravity) and then injected them with JOY (and a smidge of Roland Emmerich).

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It was very scientific and sometimes the challenge of reading the science was kind of fun. I fell in love with both main characters. I think the ending really sat with me. The book slowed down when the ending came about. It made me challenge how I see the world and what life could be like. It’s a long one, but was worth the read.

I will say a lot of this book is corny, but corny makes it fun. It did have its moments that were emotional, I absolutely shed a tear or two 😅😅

This book was a tbr book for me that was chosen for my work book club. I don’t remember how I first heard of this book, possibly book tok lol. I am very excited to discuss this one.

Highly recommend the audiobook, the voice actor is incredible and the 🎶 are delightful. Legitimately funny and I think it being in audio added to the humor.

This isn’t a book that I would normally read but I’m glad I gave it a chance. There’s definitely some science-dense sections but the author does a great job about rephrasing and dumbing down the topics so it’s easy to understand.

a really wholesome story and I still smile when I think about it.
