I went into this expecting nothing of Edward and he was even worse.
the only thing going for him was that he knew he's an asshole.
plus points:
- Emmett and Charlie and Rosalie are the only sane people, I love them
- Jacob is NORMAL here
- Bella has A PERSONALITY (and she is kinda cool ngl)
minus points:
- Eddie is absolutely terrible, Jesus fucking Christ
- Stephanie Meyer's purity culture upbringing is strong with this one
- I had to roll my eyes SO. MANY. TIMES.
all in all: I am so glad that I'm done. this was exhausting.
also: this fucking book has almost 900 pages. AND IT ONLY COVERS THE FIRST BOOK. HOW. I was so disappointed when I found out. I thought I could read the whole series from Eddie's perspective. I was ROBBED.
idk what to rate this. It has been somewhat entertaining, but it's also so bad. I guess I'm also a bit sentimental, because I did like the original series (I am aware they're also bad, but when I was 14 I liked it. sue me) so we're going with 2.5?

- Edward's relationship to Rosalie is so strange and captivating. He loathes her, but he thinks about her the most out of all his family members. Obviously, Rosalie was Bella's foil in the main series, but I never gave much thought to how that impacted Edward's perspective of her.
- The deeper depiction and explanations of Alice and Jasper's abilties were cool.
- I despise the way Edward's mind-reading is depicted. I think it falls into many of the pitfalls that make me dislike most mind-reading characters. The apathy, the loathing for what people think in the privacy of their own heads, the lack of any personal ethics, the fact that he is not impacted at all beyond annoyance... that's a little too flat and Christian for my mind-reading opinions. That said, there is a great moment where Edward uses Emmett and Jasper's minds as his rearview mirrors. This is the ONLY good thing Meyer wrote about Edward's mind-reading.
Graphic: Injury/Injury detail, Grief, Toxic relationship, Medical content, Blood, Stalking, and Violence
Moderate: Cultural appropriation, Gore, Racism, and Murder
Minor: Cursing, Kidnapping, Fire/Fire injury, Pedophilia, Rape, and Drug use
-Racism & cultural appropriation tags are more about how fucked up Meyer's portrayal of the Quileute Tribe than anything that happens in-book (though Edward is hostile toward them).a_wren_that_reads's review against another edition
