It’s a twilight book. Super interesting to read Edwards side though! And I’m already in so deep, yes is read the one that hopefully follow.

Look. This came up on Skip the Line on Libby and I read it for 11 year old Corrine who read the twilight series 100 times. 26 year old me hated this. I would like to think 11 year old me would have hated knowing what Edward was thinking too, but I probably would have loved it.

This book was only made tolerable by skipping over all the dialogue between Edward and Bella, all the moments where he’s spying on her in third person, and all the moments he’s creeping on her in her bedroom.

And still, Edward is completely insufferable and so full of himself.

I did enjoy the history bits and further insight into Charlie and Rene’s minds. Alice, as always, is precious. It was also interesting to know what was happening with the visiting vampires.

I’m wanting to pick this up again, but I agree with some reviewers that there is a lot of repetitive exposition that doesn’t add a ton to the reader’s experience and there are a lot of unanswered questions that could’ve taken their place. Will defs try again but this is my second go around lol.

Yeah this took me almost a year to finish.
The book itself was exactly as expected—not fantastically written, even a bit cringey—but it was very fun to get a sequel out of a series I’d read at age 14.
Would not recommend for anyone who didn’t read the rest of the series, ever.

Before I dive into this little rant that justifies my low rating: This is just my personal opinion!!!

If you like this book, good for you but I absolutely hated this. This sent me into not one but multiple reading slums - literally every time I picked this up and read a chapter - and I simply finished it out of spite.

Now where do I start? Ah right, with the stalker. Edward is a utter creep and you only realise to what extent his creepiness actually goes when you read his pov. This man is a walking red flag - the red flag is a freaking red gigantic blanket at this point - and I'm horrified at the mere thought that my thirteen year old self was obsessed with him. Looking back - it has been a couple years since I last read it - Edward already seemed super creepy in the original Twilight from Bella's Pov but now experiencing everything from his view really shows you how bad he actually is. The worst thing is, he keeps telling himself that what he is doing is bad, that he should keep away from Bella but he doesn't. So, he freaking acknowledges that he is a complete creep and stalker but he doesn't really change anything about his behaviour and even justifies it as him protecting her. Sir, she needs protection from you!!! You are literally a stalker - not to even mention the thoughts you had about killing not only her but also your classmates on top of everything - and at this point her falling in love with you is probably just some disturbing twisted version of Stockholm sydrome but yeah, go off I guess. It also really bothered me how Edward took the liberty to decide what's going to happen with Bella after they met the tracker. She might have been in danger yes, but he had no right to make any kind of decision for her. He is controlling and justifies it again with protecting her. In that case it might have been true but still in no way does that give him the right to speak over her, let alone make decisions for her. Like can we please stop romanticising controlling abusive/toxic men???! He is literally so off-putting to me.

Also, can we talk about the fact that a piece of toast has more personality than Bella?! I already thought her personality was lacking at best in the original Twilight but this is even worse. Her thoughts at least gave her some sort of character but now that we didn't even have that she was nothing but utterly frustrating. And no, "oh I'm nothing but a fragile clumsy little human" does not count as a personality, thank you.

Now to the writing of this atrocity. The writing style frustrated me immensely and for the majority of the book it just felt like the author was desperately trying to fill as many pages as somehow possible. There were so many unnecessary fillers - not to forget to also mention all the plotholes and inconsistencies that riddled the entire book - and by the end of it I couldn't care less about what was happening as long as it was just finally over. Honestly, this was pure torture to get through and the only thing that kept me going was my anger and frustration.

I couldn’t put it down and felt sad when it was over. I’m a Twilight fan and even though it took me forever to start the book once I started there was no stopping. I loved learning more about the Cullen family and there’s an interesting twist. I also liked reading about the thoughts that Edward can hear.

The absolute best of the twilight series. I would absolutely love to re-read the entire thing from Edward’s perspective. This book was a stunner I’m so grateful that it exists.

This book could’ve easily been 200-300 pages. The only reason I didn’t stop reading after the fourth or fifth chapter is because I wanted to give it a chance and because I’m stubborn so once I started, I needed to finish. However, I could only read a little bit everyday because it was so bad and like swallowing a gigantic, large, dry pill - a placebo pill at that because there was literally no reason for this book. There was also no reason for me to buy it, but I did and I’ll have to live with that mistake..

It was repetitive throughout the whole book, 50% of Edwards internal dialogues were redundant, and this book really shows how creepy and annoying this whole story is.

Bella went from having virtually z e r o personality in the first books to all of a sudden being this basic, cheesy, wannabe-quirky girl. I imagined Kirsten Stewart playing this new and reimagined-for-no-reason Bella in a movie version of Midnight Sun and it provided for some comic relief throughout this exhausting experience.

It doesn’t even seem like Stephanie Meyer wrote this. It more so resembles a Tumblr fan fiction post... but 658 pages long.

Also, I know this isn’t all on Stephanie.. but, how do you release this highly anticipated book, on a global scale, making millions... but have over 5 typos or missing words??

If you’re a Twilight fan, you’ll probably hate this book.

Okay, so I feel bad giving this book 2 stars, but you need to understand that I almost DNF'd this book three separate times just because of how bored I was. It was definitely cool to get the extra perspective on a lot of classic Twilight scenes, but I feel like Edward's inner monologue was so draining.
