Trigger warnings: sexual content, homophobia, sexism in academia, harassment, racist microaggressions, fatphobic comments, ableism
This book was written with CHARMING as a descriptor in mind. Would have been a solid effort if not for the line "now wait a cotton picking minute" said by a white farmer as if it was a hilarious quip the author thought of, a fatphobic character, and an entire subplot about a character with schizophrenia who did not have a single line of on page existence that wasn't for the traumatic backstory of the love interest. It also definitely toed the line of eugenics in a way that made me feel very very uncomfortable. Collectively those things made me exceedingly uncomfortable and I think that's enough for me to pass judgement that there was no real thought put into sensitivity in this book.
