This is a brand new edition of the long-forgotten Tove Jansson illustrated edition of The Hunting of the Snark. Really glad I heard about it! It's a slim little volume that will fit on any shelf and the illustrations are, of course, terrific.

This was a re-reading, and was completely worth it. I could gush about these two books forever. I noticed that there were a lot of things in the books which I did not understand when I was younger, and I did not appreciate any of the poetry earlier either. I don't think it should be considered a children's book, because, really, it isn't. It just isn't that much fun if you read it when you're six or seven.
Helen Oxenbury's illustrations are so great! Google her. I especially love the pic of the Dormouse telling the story in the first book.
Everybody out there! Re-read these books! You won't regret it.

This is a most excellent poem and I highly recommend it if you haven't heard of it. The joy of this edition was the unexpected fact that Tove Jansson had illustrated the Hunt - and here was the chance to enjoy the illustrations (and the poem again).

They sought it with thimbles, they sought it with care;
They pursued it with forks and hope;
They threatened its life with a railway-share;
They charmed it with smiles and soap.

O frabjous day! to mix my Lewis Carroll up...
