A solid WWII historical fiction about the Navajo Code Talkers told from the POV of one telling his grandchildren about his life. When he gets to war it gets very war action heavy, and also includes lots of tidbits clearing up some misconceptions about this little known (to more people than it should be) aspect of WWII history. Highly recommended for middle school and high school collection and even though it came out in 2006, it still stands well.

This is a great book to read if you want to learn more about the Navajo in WWII. I had heard about the code talkers at some point, but did not know much about what they had done. For instance I had no idea that nothing was written down - they worked from memory.

This is a story that everyone should read.
