Second book I read from this author and second 5 stars.
It’s really not a cosy romance book and there’s a lot in there that I would not recommend to anyone but gosh I loved it.
I was in love with Jude from the first page and even though Caspien is toxic and condescending and cold… I just loved him instantly as well.
The writing is really really really good.
Can’t wait to read more from this author.

For two weeks, I've been trying to put into words what this book did to me, and I still can't. I don't know if I ever will without resorting to screaming and crying (my DMs while reading it can attest to this). I love Jude and Cas with my entire heart, and I love Scarlett for giving them life and sharing them with us.
“Everything you think and feel is in your eyes, you know. When you hated me, I could see it. When you didn’t, I could see that too.”
“I knew I shouldn’t want him anywhere near me, not again. But I was Jude. And Jude loved Cas. And so I also knew I would never tell him to go again.”
I’ve never read Great Expectations so I didn’t really have a clue what I was getting myself into when I started this book. Maybe everyone’s instagram stories of them crying + raging should have been enough foreshadowing. Looking back now I should have known, after reading Hamartia, the weight Scarlett’s books were capable of carrying.
My heart died a thousand tiny little deaths while reading Jude + Caspien’s story. It broke over and over for Jude, who loved Caspien so blindly. It broke for Caspien, who was just so utterly damaged. It broke for Luke, who was really just the best guy ever. It broke for Nathan, who was the sweetest innocent bystander in Jude + Caspien’s wreckage. I even reserved a tiny little break for Gideon, who may or may not even deserve it (the jury is still out).
Scarlett has such a unique writing style that is so beautiful and compelling, capable of reviving my broken little heart with her words. I will read anything she writes. Even if I need to buy a box of tissues every time I open one of her books.

I’ve never read Great Expectations, nor do I feel the need to. I can’t imagine it’s as queer as this. This was beautiful and emotional, and I was invested from the beginning. For the most part, I really loved the writing. A devastating love story that comes with a hard-won conclusion is just my type of book, and this one didn’t disappoint.
Oh my heart. Wow.
At times I wondered how this was ever going to be a HEA, but it pieces together so well at the end.
Both Jude and Caspian have my heart. This book will make you feel and ache! Do not be put off by cheating, sometimes it’s just a part of great love stories. ❤️

I shouldn’t have picked this up. I knew I wasn’t going to like it but I had a terrible case of FOMO seeing all the good reviews.
But the problem is, Great Expectations is not a romance. It’s a sad and depressing story of a boy who held a torch for way too long for someone who never deserved his love. And unfortunately this book portrays that sentiment. Caspian is not likable. He’s cold and cruel and I didn’t even feel bad for Jude because he only loved Caspian because he’s beautiful.
I just can’t enjoy a romance where the MC’s are shallow and have no redeeming qualities.

Great writing. It took me a bit to get into the book, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. Jude, sweet Jude, I ached for him and in the end, for Cas too. I only wish we would’ve seen more of Cas’ POV but I suppose the book was already sad, and having more of Cas’ POV would have been almost too tragic. In any case, I highly recommend this and the other book written by S. Drake.
I JUST finished this and my heart is sore and my eyes are swollen. It's very rare for a book to make me FEEL so much but this one did and I wanted it to end and NOT end in the same breath.
Marvelous, lyrical writing
A Great Expectations Reimagining
A very hard-won HEA
This was is HARD read but it's worth it.
If you know the song: Hopelessly Devoted To You by Olivia Newton John.. this is the book version of it.
Jude is steadfast and hopelessly devoted to Cas who thinks he isn't worthy.
Cas makes horrible decisions but Jude forgives him and loved him unconditionally.
It's a story of love, lust, heartbreak and redemption and it will definitely stay with me for a long time.
Then why not 5 stars?
There were a couple of loose ends that were never addressed.
I also wanted Cas to grovel more.
There were a couple of HP references and I'm guessing alot of MM readers won't appreciate.
