"He's going to break your heart, you know. And still, you'll love him. He'll break it over and over again and you'll continue to love him"
I ATE this book up like no ones business. ATE THIS UP.
The more angsty and heartwrenching the book is, the more likely I am to enjoy it. So of course, I loved this book.
I knew from the first 50 pages that I would give 5 stars to this. I love love of coming of age story where we follow the character through at least a period of time, so it was easier to me to instantly love the story.
I haven't read the book that this is inspired by but this trope is well known enough to not become confused with what is happening. BTW, there are quite a few TWs so read up on those before hand.
I liked both Caspien and Jude, but I definitely have a soft spot for Jude since I felt we were alike in certain ways. He suffered alot but to see himhappy at the end just made it all worth it . I also I'm super week for beautiful breathtaking boys/men like Caspien and I know I would also go through it if he did the same to me as he did to Jude. Love and hate him for sure.
Multiple times and multiple people get in the way of their relationship and it's heartwrenching to see how both of them suffered in different ways. Towards the end when we realize how much Caspien went through is so sad but in a way he did indeed lie on the bed he made - and eventually, got out of it, but in his own ways and terms.
Another character that also was suuuuper interesting was Gideon, Caspien's uncle. He heavily influenced Caspien and that's very apparent throughout the book, mostly his younger years. One of the main things about him is the way he got his heart broken in such a way that influenced his thoughts until the very end (almost).I first thought that his great love was Caspien's dad but that doesn't really make much sense
I absolutely adored the references to Ghibli movies and "The Cat Returns" which is one of my favourite movies from all time <3.
The epilogue being with Caspien's POV almost completely wrecked me btw. UGH. And to see that they got their happy ever after<33333
For more books like this plsssss.
One of my main criticisms is that I felt awkward these two 15/16 year old getting sexual, I wished it wasn't as "explicit" as it was.
