Ah, the burn-out of child giftedness.

This was a fun little gem to stumble across. The writing was a lot better than I thought it'd be (for finding it for free on Apple Books... iBooks?) and the story was engaging and easy to follow. Also Talia reminded me of Klaus Hargreeves from The Umbrella Academy but I think that's just me.

I've read some of Pulioff's other work, so I was excited to learn that she just released a new short story.

It's an intense, fast read set in the future. What I loved about the character was how flawed and somewhat inherently self-destructive she was. The psychology of it is what made this so fascinating, I think. Not to mention a surprise twist at the end. I just kept wondering what would happen at the end, and then when it came, I just blinked in disbelief.

Fantastic read. Totally worth the cheap price.
