Really fascinating read that will definitely stay with me. Lots of information about fires but also good insights into history of the petrochemical chaos and other environmental impacts. Well-written and enjoyable (but terrifying) read.

I liked the end, and some of the ideas about how fire cultivates us are interesting. The part about the fort McMurray, while intense, was kind of repetitive because it was the same scenario playing out in different neighborhoods in a town I was unfamiliar with

Amazing.  There's a lot of history on bitumen, and climate change science.  My biggest takeaway is that we are a fire-obsessed culture, and that fire is damaging our world.  This book strengthened my resolve to reduce oil and plastic consumption.

This book was riveting at times informative at others. It actually made me cry twice reading about the stories of people living through fires. I learned a lot without being bored. Parts of it made me feel hopeless, and other parts made me feel hopeful - would recommend.

Wish the friend who recommended was here to discuss it with. Felt it got a little draggy at parts but overall i learned a ton related to various angles, Vaillant-style. Seeing the woods around me in a whole new way.

Acknowledge I’m not a huge nonfiction reader so I thought it was too drawn out describing the background of Fort Mcmurray and the response to the fire. But also acknowledge it is really well researched and well written regarding an important and timely topic.
