Some of these stories are freaking awesome, some not so much. Saunders has a unique way with language that feels like you're talking to your homies from high school, often funny, sometimes very dark.

Series of short stories. Super bizarre and unlike anything I’ve ever read. Neurotic and stream of consciousness for some shorts, and then very touching and immersive in others.
Quirky, funky, thought provoking, fun reads. Really like his writing style.

Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes

All of the stories in this one were interesting, though some were more engrossing than others. Saunders great gift is his flexibility - no story really felt like a repeat, even though there was some threads that crossed over from one story to the next. I will say the penultimate "Tenth of December" might easily be one of the best short stories I've ever read and touched me much more deeply than I expected going into it. For that one alone, I would give this collection a look.

A collection of short stories that are haunting, disturbing, and sometimes hopeful.

Why didn't anyone tell me what a kickass writer George Saunders is?!

Even though I am tardy to the party, I'm going to throw my 2 cents in anyways. George Saunders knocked my socks off with this book. I was introduced to him through The Best American Nonrequired Reading of 2012. It included the title story Tenth of December, which completely blew me away. It stands out among a group of already superlative literature. I'm predisposed to judge short stories harshly. This was the first story EVER that I finished reading and then immediately reread. The beginning threw me for a complete loop and by the end I was in tears. I read it again as part of this collection and it still killed me. It's a perfect piece of writing. I want to tattoo it on my actual heart Mark Leyner style.

Victory Lap and Escape from Spiderhead were my other 2 favorites. The entire set isn't necessarily as strong as those but they all made me think and they all made me feel.

All of these stories are so enthralling and well written. Some more than others, but I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Well, that rocked.

Some of the stories were good, a couple were OK, one I skimmed, but the last story was truly wonderful. In all stories he presents interesting ideas about the future, families, and pharmaceuticals.
