Thoroughly enjoyed these clever, well-constructed stories. My only quibble would be that the voices of different narrators tended to sound the same across the stories.
By far my favorite Saunders. So many of these stories are gripping and compelling as few short stories are. Each is a DFWesque gift of narrative brilliance.

Really enjoyed the variety of stories and characters introduced. Some interesting themes throughout the stories:
- classism: the fight to comply with the systems in place and try to be like our neighbors, to not feel the shame of being lesser than
- shared humanity: stories about the reduction of humanity and finding it again, bravery, saving each other
- inner struggle: George does a great job of capturing the inner battle when faced with difficult or ambiguous situations and flashbacks that drive perceptions and choices
