Layman's Chew is great, but this was nothing special. So much was made of his take on this title, but expectations had to be set so low after the previous runs. Art is very uneven, but at times kinetic. Emperor Penguin was not really any different from the Penguin we all know and love except that he was a normal human without the penguin-like body or probiscus.

Leaving this unrated for now. I'm debating between 2 and 3 stars. Maybe 2.5? Idk.

The idea of having Ogilvy as the Emperor Penguin is brilliant, but only if he had stayed a bit longer and on the hunt for Cobblepot himself. It's quite boring for him to go for Batman right away.

I do like that this continues to feel like a serial with each issue focusing on something new. And while there are plot lines that carry through multiple issues, it doesn’t feel like you’re reading ONLY one plot that takes 75 issues, head wound induced amnesia, and a failed wedding or two to get to the point. 😒

Well, the only good thing I can say about this volume is that it's not as terrible as the previous two.
But it is still pretty boring and lacks depth or tension. The stories are very inconsequential. The joker gang is a very boring storyline and so is the team up between Ivy and Clayface. And none of them conect to the "main" Penguin storyline.
The title is very misleading because Penguin (which acts off-charachter here) and the new Emeror Penguin are'nt even the main charachters. There are no main story-arc here at all, just some plots tied very loosely together. Very much like the first two and boring volumes (only slightly better I guess).

It’s decent. It jumps around a bit too much. I also don’t like the random villain issues (?) between chapters (?)

Of course I’m jumping in on the third volume but a character gets killed off between the last two issues but it’s only mentioned in passing as if there’s another story that runs with this one?

"Looks like you got an admirer."
"Are you serious? What kind of person writes fan mail to mud?"
"Its not fan mail. You've read 'em, right? These are straight-out love letters."
"Could be worse, I suppose. Think about all the mail for the Joker. All the twisted obsessives, true-crime buffs and murder junkies. Gotta figure somebody out there has a thing for clay."

Okay, now I'm just dying to read Joker's fan mail. What kind of crazy bullshit do you think he gets?
