- Apparently, this is the 3rd book in the Frankie Elkin series.
- Frankie is not a private investigator or a detective. She is, however, good at solving missing person cases. She does it for free. Frankie is a recovering alcoholic as well.
- Keahi Pearson, a woman on death row in Texas, nicknamed the Beautiful Butcher, is scheduled to be executed in 3 weeks. Her dying wish is to find her younger sister, Leilani aka Lea, who Keahi believes Mac aka Sanders MacManus, her powerful, billionaire, abusive ex-boyfriend, has kidnapped and kept under lock and key for the last 12 years.
- Through the help of Keahi’s badass attorney and Keahi’s benefactors (aka creepy fans), Frankie is able to secure transportation and a job working on a remote, secluded atoll, Pomaikai, near Hawaii. MacManus has purchased the atoll, and he is attempting to build a luxury, environmentally conscious resort.
- Frankie has 3 weeks to figure out the truth about Lea, and hopefully, get her to safety.
- Although I hadn’t read the first two books in the series, I didn’t find I was missing anything. This was great as a standalone. I suspect there potential spoilers for the first two books, as Frankie references her past a few times.
- Atmospheric. Loved the setting.
- I am a big fan of our strong MC! She is a smart, capable, and witty. I liked how she is also flawed, but striving to do the write thing.
- Gardner is a great writer. She has been on my list for a while, and I have seen plenty of rave reviews about her work. I can’t wait to read more of her stuff.
- The chapters are short & digestible, which I love! All are about 4-10 minutes each.
- Fast paced. Satisfying ending.
- Only complaints: I didn’t need to hear about crabs that much! And, the plot is pretty far-fetched, but didn’t bother me too much overall.

Frankie has a hobby of finding missing persons that police either can't find, or don't search for. She gets contacted by a lawyer for a serial killer on death row who wants to see her sister again before her death.
This book sends Frankie to an atoll off of Hawaii, where she meets lots of new friends. It was a great book with lots of great twists at the end! I can't wait to read more about Frankie.
TW - child abuse, graphic murder, domestic abuse. The first chapter was really graphic.
