Other than some fanfiction snippets, this was my first Omegaverse experience. I had a good time.
One of my worries with Omegaverse is the power dynamic between Alphas (typically male-coded) and Omegas (typically female-coded). This is a f/f romance, so it flips the gender binary in that regard. Here, the Alpha and Omega characters are both female. In a way, it seems like a female Alpha parallels a transgender experience; as I am not transgender, I cannot speak to that beyond seeing some parallels.
This book also flips the "dominating Alpha" stereotype on a couple levels. One level is the fact that our main Alpha is a slave and our main Omega is a princess. Socially, the power goes to the Omega. Even with that, the Omega took pains to give her Alpha slave choices within the confines of their circumstances. Also, our main Omega did not like overbearing, dominated Alphas and made her preferences known. She challenged her father (toxic masculinity in a character) whenever she could, and otherwise stuck to her proverbial guns.
The romance I liked. The sex was super hot. An all around good reading experience. My only criticism is the final chapter, which dragged and added one or two unnecessary plot elements that had to be resolved. I like this introduction into Omegaverse and it made me curious to read more of it.
