Wonderful read!

Ellison and Grey stole my heart! I devoured this one. Ellison just spoke to my soul. He’s something of a mess with his inexperience and the way he can be so awkward, but he’s loyal and sweet and kind at the same time he can be sassy and snarky and give as good as he gets. Grey is a wounded dog, quick to snarl and always expecting the worst. Yet when you see him with his inner circle, he is still the same guy he was in the past, he is just hiding that vulnerability normally. When these two finally sneak past each other’s defenses, it’s everything!

Lived it.

3.5 stars

I loved the premise of this story and was hooked from the beginning. It was a 4 star read until I got to the end. I felt like it ended too abruptly and could have benefited from tying up the story a little bit more. Either way, this was an enjoyable read and I recommend it.

I have struggling with this author's books in the past. And while I enjoyed this book enough to stay engaged and finish it, I continue to struggle with her particular style. Perhaps the most glaring issue I had was that the book starts with MCs in high school and as far as I am concerned, they continued to behave like they were in high school despite supposedly "growing up" to become a venture capital genius billionaire and a high powered attorney. I just didn't buy it and some of their antics were pretty juvenile. Lots of inconsistencies and their collective charity-mindedness made little sense to me. Also, there is a fine line in most enemies-to-friends romances where the MC are so completely despicable ... redemption becomes unlikely ... or at least difficult to be believable. That is what this was like for me. I had all sorts of problems with the characterization ... but still found this to be engaging and sweet read. Lots of potential and promise ... but this just didn't work for me.

I loved this story!!! It is the definition of a enemies to lovers romance that definitely takes its time for both main characters to acknowledge their feelings and act on them. Grey and Ellison both have a complicated shared history that is devastating to see how the fallout of their first romantic interaction irrevocably changed the trajectory of their lives.

Hostile Takeover is a fantastic enemies to lovers romance that includes fake dating. Grey and Ellison are so perfect regardless of their resistance to their initial attraction to one another.

Grey is the definition of a grump and his stubbornness and determination to seek his revenge is apparent throughout his Hostile Takeover of Ellison's father's company. He holds his father personally responsible for ruining and damaging his life. Ellison is a problem because Grey has unresolved feelings after ten years.

Ellison is the sweet and kind lawyer who has had feelings for Grey for over ten years and experiences daily regret over his part in ruining Grey's life ten years ago. Grey's surprise reappearance in his life throws them both for a loop and their attraction is still as strong as ever.

Watching Grey and Ellison dance around their feelings for one another is one of the best aspects of this story and watching their feelings mature and grow into genuine consideration for each other was perfectly crafted and developed.

Overall I loved this standalone romance and found it incredibly moving as the second chance romance was finally realized.

Yet another Lucy Lennox book I put off reading because I thought I wouldn’t enjoy it as much as some other ones in my to-read pile. I need to learn that if I think a Lucy Lennox book probably won’t be my favorite, I need to immediately read it.

The ending? With the scholarship thing? Incredible. Loved it. Would read again.
