I really enjoyed this urban fantasy! I haven't read one from the POV of a supernatural nurse. A lot of the books I've read have a special hospital set up for either the supernatural creatures or the really rich people when they get injured. And that makes a lot of sense. I loved being able to read about it from this POV.
Edie's not long out of nursing school when she's given an opportunity to save her junkie brother. Work at County Hospital, on Y4 floor, and her brother will never be high again. Then a mistake happens and one of her patients dies.
Now Edie is involved in vampire's business, meets a shapeshifter, falls for a zombie, and not only needs to save her brother, but Anna and her own soul as well.
She definitely needs a pay raise.
Definitely enjoyable. There are a lot of things that happen to keep the plot moving, and Edie is an interesting and amusing narrator. Looking forward to the second book!

Decent. Starts off slow, finally builds and things are clear around 80%. Moving on to book 2 now.
As a nursing student I loved the portions of this book that dealt with Edie’s actual night shifts. The author is a nurse so all nursing portions were spot on and as real as could be, when talking about caring for the paranormal creatures. I loved Edie’s character and her attitude throughout the book. The zombie she meets and falls for is also very entertaining and his actions, reactions, and conversations with Edie are often so honest they are amusing. I didn’t feel fully immersed in the world of the vampires – their different families and reasoning behind how they were was difficult for me to get into. As much of the story was involving this fact, that became a drawback for me. The were-creatures were awesome and I wanted more of their kind. Characters were definitely the big draw in this story and I would read more to find out more about them!

I liked this book but I was in such a reading slump that I'm not sure I really liked it as much as I could. Though I did fine the plot interesting and the characters fun and dimensional. I'm not sure if I would buy the second book or not.
I have to admit I was disappointed with this one. I work night shift and was looking forward to all the crazy mayhem that occurs in a hospital in the dark hours but my expectations weren't met. It got a bit disjointed at times and although I liked the super short chapters (6 pages max) it was hard to read (as in the writing style was a bit difficult to follow).
If nothing else, the nurse for a supernatural branch of a hospital was a new idea, at least to me. The world the author created is interesting, I'll read the others
Not bad for a debut novel. Edie is kind of annoying and I can't really pin down why.
Edie is a one of the newest nurses on Y4; the secret ward hidden in the bowels of the County Hospital. "Nightshifted" gives new meaning to the phrase "Thing that go bump in the night" If it wasn't for bad luck Edie wouldn't have any luck at all.
Edie has her hands full with every paranormal patient imaginable. Like most nurses Edie is overworked, tired and under appreciated. Nursing is a thankless job and being a nurse to paranormal beings is even worse.
Trouble seems to find Edie at every turn. From trying to keep her Herione addict brother Jake safe, to chasing a wayward vampire, falling for a zombie. Yup: a zombie and lastly fighting for her soul.
In this story you have a bit of everything and at some moments the story is all over the place. With a non existent social life and working the nightshift its obvious Edie lives a very lonely life but one thing is for certain; working in Y4 brings alot of excitement.
