Someone else said it pretty accurately: Friend-zoned but make it a classic.
What I liked:
- The notion of a dreamer, the way the story is told with so much detail that you almost forget you could summarize this book in one sentence.
What I did not like:
- The writing was unapproachable, and it wasn't easy to lose yourself in the book when you come across old words no one knows anymore every few seconds; it might have been just this particular translation, though
- A predictable story; I was not surprised by anything, and did not feel any meaningful connection to the characters.
I can imagine that this one is best enjoyed slowly.

Finishing White Nights by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a melancholic journey of a depressed man; the dreamer, who foolishly puts his hopes up for his dearest; Nastenka. A true yearner, he creates the entire romances in his head. I think this book is made for me, I'm the dreamer. This whole book actually started with a long lonesome stroll of the dreamer who then met Nastenka and they got to know each other and be friends, the dreamer who's longing for a romantic relationship met a girl who—i dare say—giving him lots of false hope just to her getting back to her long lost 'fiancé' after saying that she would love him and not the man of her dream. Loving how it takes place in the serene twilight. Such a light, sorrowful, and miserable novel if you wanted to getting into classics. There are lots of pieces i deeply engrave in my head,
"I am a dreamer. I know so little of real life that I just can’t help re-living such moments as these in my dreams, for such moments are something I have very rarely experienced. I am going to dream about you the whole night, the whole week, the whole year."
"I don’t know how to be silent when my heart is speaking."
"Your hand is cold, mine burns like fire. How blind you are, Nastenka!"
"May your sky always be clear, may your dear smile always be bright and happy, and may you be for ever blessed for that moment of bliss and happiness which you gave to another lonely and grateful heart. Isn't such a moment sufficient for the whole of one's life?"
well this book is worth to read! such a hurtful yet captivating yet depressing yet exquisite, i love classics!

"É fácil se apaixonar por uma ideia"
amassou dostô!!!! Provou que quando o ser acha que seu futuro é solidão, ele faz qualquer coisa e sede a qualquer ideia que signifique não estar sozinho, ate as coisas mais absurdas e sem sentido pra quem olha de fora (que às vezes até faria o mesmo). No mais, esse personagem principal precisa de um ansiolítico urgente!
