Loved it! I can't wait for the second book; this one left me feeling so many emotions with all that happened, I need some answers!
I was fortunate enough to be able to read this Novel before it's release, and let me just say this book has everything you could possibly want in a fantastic book, it's got action and mystery. you can't tell where the story is headed until the mystery starts to unfold! It's filled with characters you can't help but love! And the world that the author has created is just fantastically magical. You get sucked right into the story right from the first chapter and you just can't put it down! I would highly recommend this book!! Definitely worth the read!
I am the type of person who is absolutely obsessed with High fantasy novels, so when I saw that Trapped in Silver was being compared to some pretty fantastic YA reads I knew I had to check it out. This book is definitely a very well written fantasy that I quite enjoyed.
Right from the beginning me as a reader was transported into a magically world filled with all kinds of creatures. We have our Demons and I'm we have our Berserkers. Now the real question is, which one are you? These two different elements of paranormal were mashed into this novel to form a very interesting story, and entertaining plot. I personally was excited to see how she incorporated the two different beasts, and found myself enticed with both and the way Sowden described them. Both were very well developed. . Aside from creating and brining to the table these two fantastic paranormal beasts, she also had a well developed plot.
Now what was interesting to me was that I found this book to be slow, however that pace set for the book didn't effect my efforts in reading it. For those who sometimes find fantasy hard to read, I believe this book would be a great lead into the genre. I found myself constantly turning pages and wanting more. The thought of waiting for the sequel will make me go a little crazy.
For the characters themselves and the way the alternating POV were done was interesting. I did like getting to read both Ethan's and Ava's perspectives. I found Sowden did a really good job at keeping the styles for both consistent. Though I found myself becoming more and more intrigued with Ava as the story went on. Ava was such a strong character. Nothing about her was normal. She was a girl surviving by living with her brother Roan in a farm. To make things even more interesting to go to work Ava must dress up as a male and presume the identity of Cedar. Next to that she won't have any man as well. I found that she was such a well written character and by far was my favourite. The rest of the cast were also quite creative and stunning as well in comparison.
Overall this book was everything I had hoped for. I found the only time I was a little confused was when their native tongue words were thrown in a couple times without some sort of general explanation. I still however really enjoyed the book. I would totally recommend this book to those who like high fantasy.

Rating: 4/5
Genre: YA Fantasy
Recommended Age: 14+ (some violence and some mature scenes, trigger warning for one particular scene that seemed a bit like the main character was going to be raped. It was probably just my inference of that scene, but just be safe and know your limits if you’re upset by that).
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This did not influence my decision in any manner. Thanks OfTomes Publishing for the review copy!
Courage comes from a shadowed place in our hearts; a blurred line that straddles love and sheer stupidity.
To seventeen-year-old Ava, wild woodcats, hungry stragglers, and simple-minded townsfolk are the evils she's grown accustomed to. But when Ethan, an unusual man with eyes of smoke and fire opal, enters her world she quickly understands that there are worse things out there than drunken men and carnivorous forest creatures. She's a specialised liar and a hell of a fighter, but against a group of animalistic men called Berserkers she struggles to survive the encounter as the desperate swing of a dagger is all it takes to change her life for good.
Half-dead and hunted by the Berserker's leader when he forms a monstrous obsession with her, Ava escapes his pursuit in an unfamiliar land full of impossible creatures, unlikely allies, and the man she doesn't know whether to kiss or kill.
But after dreadful news of her missing brother surfaces, Ava becomes more involved in the centuries-long war and begins to unravel the reasons behind her relentless nightmares, discovering truths long-buried in a violent history of love, loss and betrayal. – Amazon.com
In the aftermath of the Sarah J Maas’ destruction on the YA fantasy genre there rises a book that promises to be just as wonderful and enticing. And this is the book! I honestly loved this book. I thought the book was very well done and a bit unique. The characters felt real and not like they were unnaturally strong or powerful. I also loved how Ava engineered Cedar instead of totally relying on Roan. I loved how the plot developed, even if some of the twists were a bit predictable, and I loved how the author did the pacing. The writing had a nice flow to it and it’s very easy to read.
There were some little things in this book that I didn’t like however. I felt that the character development wasn’t as good as it could have been and there were too many love interests for my liking. And as I stated before, some of the twists in the book are predictable.
Verdict: Overall, I really liked the book. Despite my critics I felt like the book was really well done and unique. I also feel that Ava is an inspirational figure. Her never-give-up, pick-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps personality is very admirable. This is definitely a book for Maas lovers and other fantasy lovers alike.

I read Trapped In Silver as part of the Oftomes September read-a-long after receiving an electronic copy in exchange for an honest review. In my opinion this book started off a little slow but was still pretty good. It was reminiscent of the Hunger Games in the beginning and it drew me in quickly. The level of fantasy just kept building and building and about halfway in I found that I couldn’t put it down.
It became confusing at times but I feel that’s similar in every fantasy world as there are so many strange names and a lot of history to learn. It was probably more confusing for me as I’ve read so much fantasy in the past and it’s hard to keep all of the amazing worlds separate in my mind. I haven’t picked up a fantasy book in years as I kind of grew out of it but after reading Trapped in Silver I can already feel myself becoming obsessed with the genre again.
The characters and plot lines were well developed and intriguing. Emily Sowden’s writing seems that of someone incredibly experienced but she is only just starting out and I can tell she’s going to be a big deal because of this series. This is a spoiler free review so I won’t go into detail but I will say that Ava, Ethan and Ric are my favourite characters and I adored the banter between them all. Also, my heart is not okay after coming to the end of this book and I have no idea how I’ll be capable of waiting until February 2018 for the next installment. Well done Emily!

Firstly, thanks to Ben and Oftomes Publishing for letting me read this book in an exchange for an honest review.
I'll try and make this review as spoiler free as possible!
Still deciding whether it's a 3.5 or a 4/5 rating, probably the latter but that's only because Ava was always putting herself in charge and in danger and I just thought "why?"
I'm not sure of the world, but for me, this book has a medieval setting, but there's mystery and monsters. Demons, people who look like us but with different eyes, and Besrkers- the crazy murdering versions.
Who can you trust?
In her home town of Wetherdon, Ava lives and works on her father's farm with her 'brother' Roan and disguises herself as a boy, Cedar- in order to sell the wears and keep everything going.
She's the only girl left in the family after her mother died and left her only a locket.
Is there more to the locket than what she thinks? She's had it for as long as she can remember.
And then, a party.
She attends a party with a friend in the next town over and is thrown into to the world of Adrian and Catriona, Demons and Besrkers, shape shifters, vampires.
Her life changes. More than she knows. Secrets are unraveled and she finds herself gaining feelings for a man she'd never have considered.
It's mainly told in Ava's view point but sometimes Ethan gets his say too but it doesn't change the flow of the storyline. It remains cohesive.
I'm surprised how quickly I flew through this book- I actually thought I wouldn't like it because it's not a genre I read.
However, it was a pleasant surprise.
I'm curious to find out what the second one might bring (I assume it's going to be part of a series)
if you like supernatural fantasy, give it a go!

Summary
Where to start? I am really not sure when it comes to Trapped in Silver. It’s a novel that had me pulled in two directions. On one hand, I raced through the last quarter of the book, completely captivated. On the other, I struggled to get through the first three quarters of the book. While it was an incredibly easy book to slip back into, it was not a book which I was desperate to return to once I’d stopped. As such, it took me near a month to read.
That being said, Trapped in Silver is a novel with an incredible amount of potential. The world is intriguing, the magic fascinating and the characters were fun to read about. The writing itself is really well done, and was perhaps one of my favourite things about the novel – it described the setting, easily dragged you back into the story and just made the events in the book feel real. I certainly enjoyed the book, it just unfortunately did not hit all the marks for me.
The rest of this review will contain mild spoilers.
Plot
The book follows a girl called Ava who lives on her family’s farm with only her adoptive brother Roan for company. As women don’t have rights, she dresses up as her ‘twin’, Cedar, in order to keep the farm running while her father is away. Ava also wears a mysterious silver locket, one that she has worn for as long as she can remember and one that she cannot remove. This locket soon winds her in trouble and she is caught up in the middle of a war, in a world that is so different from the one she grew up in, a world filled with the mythical creatures of her childhood stories.
Trapped in Silver is fairly slow moving to start with, but once the plot actually kicks in, it rapidly improves. While I had slight trouble with the limited action and development at the beginning, I did enjoy the fact that nothing was revealed immediately, or all at once. – there was a good build up to the reveals, particularly with the nature of the characters Ava finds herself with. While there are a number of twists, a lot are fairly predictable, and there are also a few minor inconsistencies and questions which I hoped would be resolved, but only made me feel confused. For example, at the beginning of the novel Ava’s locket teleports her places. This, however, seems to be forgotten about, or the nature of it changes, in the second half of the book, and it’s not really explained. While not anything major, it did leave me puzzled as I was reading.
Characters
I did really enjoy the characters and how defined they were. Ava makes for a great lead – she’s got guts and determination, although there are times where her stubborn curiosity does come across as just plain stupidity. I also really enjoyed her dual role as both Ava and Cedar, although it was disappointing to see this aspect of her personality fade away in the second half – it would have been good to see Cedar show up throughout the book!
As well as Ava, the other characters all fit in perfectly with the story. Their personalities complemented each other and made the group feel more like a family than a group of characters thrown together. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to keep track of which species each character was, and found Ethan to be a little forgettable. He came across as a typical YA fantasy male protagonist and there wasn’t much about him that made him stand out.
World/Setting
One of my biggest frustrations with this book was how brilliant the world seemed and how little we got to see of it. All the time I was reading, I felt like I was only brushing the surface of what was on offer, and it would have been fantastic, and more meaningful, to have seen more of the history and world earlier on in the novel. As it was, some of the reveals were not as powerful as they could have been and I kept forgetting about the lore of the world.
I did, however, enjoy the twists on the mythical creatures and that it’s not the typical beings that took center stage of this novel. I’m still not entirely sure what the demons can actually do, beyond Ethan’s gift, but the Berserkers were an intriguing foe and the scene where we’re first introduced to them as a group was terrifying to read.
Final thoughts
I think it’s safe to say that I have very mixed feelings about Trapped in Silver. On the whole, I enjoyed it. It was a good fantasy read, with a lot of potential. The writing was brilliant, there were so many highlights in the book and I devoured the final quarter of the book. Unfortunately, Trapped in Silver is let down in places and I feel like it could have been brilliant if the world was explained a little bit more and the pacing at the beginning was a bit faster. However, that is just my opinion, and I would definitely recommend reading this book if you do enjoy legends and fantasy.

First, I want to say thank you to Oftomes Publishing and Emily Sowden for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review!
I'm going to post a more in depth review of the book on my blog later this week (which I'll add the link here once it's posted!), but I'll give a very broad review for Goodreads and Amazon!
I'd say this book to me, was around a 3.5 stars.
There were so many aspects to this book that had me on the boarderline between liking it and not liking it. The main character Ava, gave me mixed feelings. There were times when I really liked her and times when I didn't.
I didn't really see much of a character development, although I really liked Emily Sowden's writing! I loved the concept of the novel, I just didn't like the character so much.

I don’t know what to say about this book. In the beginning we meet Ava. She seemed bad ass to me sometimes dressing as her “brother” , fearless doesn’t take shit from anyone. Then something happens to her and it’s like she goes stagnant. She doesn’t evolve it’s like she went backwards in a way. Became soft.
For the most part this book was interesting. It was a different read with visions and men who are cannibalistic but it took me FOREVER to read it. There were times where I was just bored out of mind and other times where I was flabbergasted through it. I felt like it was something missing but I can’t put my finger on it.
It took too long for the “truth” to come out which didn’t come until like 80% in the book but I still enjoyed it.
THANK YOU TO OFTOMES PUBLISHING FOR SENDING ME A COPY OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

Loved it! I can't wait for the second book; this one left me feeling so many emotions with all that happened, I need some answers!
