The Princess, Her Dragon, and Their Prince starts out with a bang as a princess must help her people flee a dragon who has decided to conquer her kingdom. No, not the dragon from the title. That dragon has been peacefully living in the woods outside the castle for some time now and is madly in love with the princess, whom she helps escape.

This princess isn’t the type to hide in a tower and wait for her fate. Seeing a chance to gain parental approval to marry her girlfriend, she talks her parents into offering her hand in marriage to whomever slays the usurper and sets about planning to make sure it’s her beloved who manages it. There’s a slight complication, though: they need help from a childhood friend who would very much like to claim that prize himself. Lucky for the three of them, this isn’t the kind of romantic triangle where one person gets left sad and lonely, but getting to a happy ending involves overcoming a lot of assumptions, expressing a ton of honesty, and summoning no small amount of bravery.

I expected this to be a fun fantasy with a poly romance-- a quick and light read, with some of my favorite tropes. Instead it was surprisingly nuanced with believable political intrigue, deep characterization (including excellent trans rep) and a multi-faceted romance that hit all the beats. I could not put it down, and am kicking myself for leaving on my TBR pile as long as I did. This is the first book I've read by this author, but it certainly won't be my last. Highly recommend for fantasy romance fans who like creative world building and rich cultural layers to go with their steamy romance.

I LOVED this book. Do you know how many poly and bisexual fantasy books I've read before this? I can't think of any, at least not where such identities were at the center. To read yourself in your favorite genre is amazing.

The world building is detailed and well done. Fantasy often only gives a passing nod to ideas of taxation and trade but these concepts and their consequences were woven in naturally.

This will probably go on my eventual re-read. I'm already recommending it to other people.

The non-linear storytelling throws me a bit, but I love the world and characters and will definitely be coming back for another read in the future.

Overall lighthearted but with a bit of angst. Story is build around the growth of the relationship(S) rather than external conflict.
