I DNFed it. It was an interesting idea/plot and I like most of Rainbow's writings however...the execution wasn't the greatest.

A bit slow for my liking but the end had all the mushy, chick-lit bits right in the feels!

Rainbow Rowell is lovely and dependable, and this is a super quick read (like all her stuff) that has memorable characters who feel true to life. This was a re-read (uninspired by my current bookshelf, I guess) and got through it in three nights. Just as cute the second or third time.

3.5/5.0 stars

My goal for 2024 was to read only books with an average rating 3.9 and above but we can make an exception and round up this book’s 3.87 stars. I immediately picked this up after reading Rainbow Rowell’s short story in “Scattered Showers” featuring these characters later in life. Some of this book took patience to read while other parts had me tearing through the text, audibly engaging with the fictional characters like I was in their neighboring cubicle. While the characters weren’t necessarily my favorite part of the novel (and I’m normally partial to character driven pieces), I was impressed by the world building (mail inboxes, y2k, Omaha, “The Courier” workplace, DnD basement, your mom’s house, etc). The ending was wrapped up a bit hastily in my opinion but the story was delectable through and through.
