This book has some well-rounded characters and really nice imagery. I felt like I was in a New York movie and it was a wonderful break from reality. The plot moved at an odd pace for me- it felt like some elements moved extremely quickly, whereas others dragged on for seemingly no reason. The climax and ending felt a bit cliched, but generally added to the charm of this cute winter read.

this was mostly an enjoyable read, but i wasn’t totally convinced by the basis for the mc’s relationship. some of the things felt pretty unrealistic (especially most of the last 50 pages),
and when iris locks herself in a storage unit and is all “omg i hope i don’t end up homeless BY MY OWN CHOICES” i wanted to slap the woe-is-me right out of her. like girl. you are literally fishing for attention and locking yourself in a storage unit for virtually no reason at all. this is something i’d do if i was maybe 13 years old and mad at my mom. i would have been over it if i was gio. and i feel like she could have just told gio the truth minus the recipe thing if she really wanted to and he wouldn’t have fucking cared.
overall if i let myself enjoy the ending instead of picking it apart and choose to be head empty, it was pretty good. not my favorite romance by far, but did make me want some gelato (and wonder how good this gelato could realistically be to make them stick to vanilla forever and still survive in new york)
