I have yet to come across a Gina L. Maxwell book that I don’t love, and it was no different when I was reading the short by Patience Parks, even though I didn’t know it was a GLM story. My only complaint with that short story was that it was too short, so it appears that my wish was granted when it was reworked and re-released as this longer version. Although it’s more of a novella, it allows for more character development and a lot more content that I desperately wanted.

I loved seeing more of the characters’ thoughts and personalities, as well as the connection building between them. The fact that they’ve worked closely together, with Izak as Daria’s bodyguard for quite some time made it feel like an organic connection, rather than just lust. I was fully invested in the relationship between these two, and I absolutely love the way that GLM always makes sure that there’s more to the story than sexy times. There’s actual depth to her stories, even though the sexy times are so incredibly hot that I was worried my kindle might start smoking at any moment.

If you haven’t checked out any of her work, this is a great way to get into it, without having to commit to a full-length story. Just be prepared — I was hooked after reading just one of her stories. Now I can’t get enough.
