Dear Matija,
I've bought this book in 2019. It took me 5 years to get to reading it, and two days to finish. I enjoyed some chapters more, some less, but all of them were wholesome in their own way. Some were sad, some inspiring, some talked of such horrible past it's hard to even imagine such family histories exist. Even though some paragraphs were too "woke" or too "instagram-y" I think the characters were well connected and the story well thought out.

P.S. Some weird representations were included that did nothing for the story, just like the arc of grandma and son in law affair, ew!

This book explored so many themes: immigrant communities and culture, feminism, trans and non-binary topics, lesbian/bisexual/pan relationships, generational stories, class, racism, and the list goes on! The real sell is that Bernadine does it seamlessly, the stories weave us in and out of so many lives over several decades and it's phenomenal.

Highly recommend.

I loved the variety, depth, realness of all the characters, from different ages and backgrounds. My only criticism was I felt like characters didn't get endings, and then suddenly everything wraps up, then suddenly it wraps up again.

I don't know how one author can create so many interesting characters that I really invested in with so little writing.
