This book changed my life. It is EXACTLY what I needed to read in this period of my growth and development as a person. It is outstanding. It bombarded me with a plethora of insights, knowledge, past personal memories, reflections and even inspiration for future personal projects. I am SO incredibly thankful to Simone for writing this masterpiece of a book.

"Being a woman poses unique problems to an autonomous human being today."

(Then, now, and always).

How do you give a review to such a massive work that is so thorough and masterful? I had to switch from paperback to ebook so I could highlight and annotate everything appropriately, which I have never done. I feel so enlightened, and yet I know there is so much I missed and have yet to glean from this text and many others.

"At the moment that women are beginning to share in the making of the world, this world still belongs to men: men have no doubt about this, and women barely doubt it. Refusing to be the Other, refusing complicity with man, would mean renouncing all the advantages an alliance with the superior caste confers on them. "

I want to refuse complicity, and I want the advantages still.

The first part was so interesting and amazing - I’d recommend it to anyone.

The second part however showed that this book in many parts is just outdated. Many of her statements were just wrong, when looking at them from our pov today.

Still one can see how groundbreaking this book was for feminism and how much this book did for it
