What a great book! I loved how it was written in such a clever way. I did have to watch a video of how cricket was played, or else I was totally lost when trying to read the descriptions of the game.

I loved how honor and manners and integrity were such a big part of this story. No bad language included either.

This is one of those young adult/middle grade books that I actually WANTED to read!

The first half of the book was great, very clever and entertaining. The second half took a turn. Way too deep and depressing for a fifth grade read. Also got a bit odd with the focus on cricket. I almost didn’t finish the book.

Gary D. Schmidt is always an author whom I really enjoy reading. This book especially grabbed me with its character Carter Jones, who narrates the story and finds quite a few things a pain in the glutes. The other character to admire is the Butler who turns up at the Jones place and helps Carter especially but really the whole family, deal with some big life issues.

The other reason I loved this book is its attention to cricket, because the Butler being English, introduces Carter and some boys to the game of cricket. That was right up my alley.

The main reason I gave this book 3 stars was because I struggled with the cricket references. I think I might add a QR code with a video of a cricket match to the book to help my readers visualize.

This year’s middle school summer read. Life lessons by a British butler, wrapped around learning about cricket. Fun and interesting!

4.5 stars because I'm not a cricket fan "^^!

This is one of my new favorite books. Avoid spoilers and summaries. It is best just as it is!

Hmm not sure they really eat pizza in Italy, I don't think it classifies as 'Italian food,' Mr Butler. This was a good book. Definitely not as good as Okay For Now but I still enjoyed it. I can't say that I understand cricket any better though lol. I think that other than what I learned from the google doodle with the crickets playing cricket is that the bowler has to knock down something behind the batter. Haha I can't even get my terminology straight XD

Schmidt is known for quality books and this one doesn’t disappoint. Another reviewer compared butler to Mary Poppins and I think that is an apt comparison. I was excited to learn more about cricket as that is a huge component of the book but I’m still as confused as ever.
