I can’t bring myself to give this book more stars just because of unexpected sad dog stories. I read L. M. Montgomery specifically when I want a comfort read, but this time I get blindsided by two particularly pitiful stories about beloved family dogs. I almost DNF’d the book halfway because it was making me too depressed. Tragic stories and unhappy endings are one thing; but books where the dog dies should have warning labels.
