DNF - wanted to love this book. Vampires are pretty awesome so felt hyped this up which made the disappointment seem bigger.
Ireally tried but I couldn't bond with the two main characters. It's not that didn't like them, they were just boring. I don't need to keep being told that Byron is rich, worried about being in love, being rich, did mention being rich? Reading through the first quarter of the book felt like had the whole storyline given to me, the rest could easily predict.
I never like giving one stars, but sorry this book wasn't for me.

0 stars.

If someone were to write a remake of Underworld, or even Twilight, I would probably read it and secretly love it. This is not that book. I would rate this as somewhere above a book being so bad I feel duty-bound to pick it apart on Goodreads and "it was OK", which is 2 stars. So maybe 1.5? Embarrassingly this was technically the first book I read in 2019. The superstitious bits of me hope that is not meaningful in any predictive way.

For 70% of the book, the story is happening as the synopsis. Their is nothing new. But after that for the last 30% the plot is awesome. Good story.
All the 3 books started in this book only.
Don't miss this book.

An honest review thanks to NetGalley. Wow. I liked this book; I love supernatural, and Frame did a great job introducing her vampires, their backstories, and their world. I loved Byron and the story that takes place between her and Amelia. There did seem to be some unfinished parts of the plot at the end; I am hoping Frame writes a second novel. The secondary characters were also very compelling; I will be excited to see if this new world is expanded to reading the story about other characters.

I'm sad to say that I really didn't enjoy this one. I was really just looking for a vampire book, which I got, but the story, romance and the characters really didn't do anything for me. It felt very cliched and predictable, so I found it quite hard to get through. I think if you are just looking for an entertaining story, this might be a good pick for you, but it really wasn't anything special. One thing that I did really like was some of the side characters, like Alexis and Katie. I think maybe another book is about them and I do hope so. To be honest I thought their tension, chemistry and overall relationship was more interesting than our mains.

I didn't actually like either of our mains very much. It's not like I didn't like them, its more that they just weren't anything special. Amelia felt like a character that I have read plenty of times. It actually started getting a bit frustrating that everyone was falling in love with her and pretty much fawning over how beautiful/innocent she was. I don't like it when characters are made out to be something overly special in this way, there's something about the main character just making everyone else fall in love with her that makes me role my eyes. I also thought that Byron would have been my kind of strong, dapper vampire love interest but she also didn't feel special. She was made out to be the strongest vampire of all time (or something like that) but I just wasn't convinced.

I feel like I'm complaining heaps but here we go. The romance also didn't jump out at me, especially at the end. They were already together at the beginning of the story (which is quite a unique way to start, I'll give it that), so we didn't get to explore the get-to-know-you stage. This is just a personal preference thing, given that the first meeting and tension at the start of the relationship is my favourite part to read about. It also meant that I wasn't convinced of their love for each other (which was meant to be a soul-mates, once-in-a-lifetime thing). I felt like it just came on too quick and was more of a tell-not-show thing. They confessed their undying love for each other enough times, but I didn't feel like Frame did a good enough job of showing it.

While I didn't like this book, I have enjoyed another book by Frame in the past. I am also really interested in Katie and Alexis' potential story, so I am open to giving it another try. I feel like a lot of what I didn't like in this book came from personal preference, especially regarding the romance and characters, so perhaps I'll enjoy another book by her more.
