Cute story, hard to follow at times

No huge plot twists, but cute book. Sometimes time would jump forward in just a single paragraph which made it a little confusing to follow at times.

Brooke is destined to take of her father. With his latest hospitalization, she moves them to San Diego. There she has found him a great rehab facility and she landed herself an amazing apartment over an Italian restaurant. What she doesn’t know is that not only will she fall for Luca, the chef, but she will fall for his daughter as well.

This is a cute book about love, family dynamics of a broken home and the lesson that not all parents are created equal.

I devoured this book over the weekend. I loved Brooke and Luca and Francesca. I had all the feelings about Brooke's care for her father after a medical event. Watching her navigate a post-Covid environment of elder care brought tears to my eyes at times, and I think it is a wonderfully accurate representation of my generation's dilemma in caring for our parents.

Of course, I loved the Italian D'Angelo family with their pasta and wine and family values. Luca is an absolute gem, and his daughter Francesca is absolutely adorable. I don't think we see the single father element often in romance novels. I appreciated how Bybee teed up the next novel in this series, which I already have a hold request for at the library.

This was simply a wonderful love story to get completely lost in on a beautiful summer weekend.
