The storyline seemed intriguing but the book fell flat for me.
The characters were all rather annoying (except the Lisbon sisters maybe) and immature. The boys have nothing interesting about themselves and have a creepy obsession with the sisters. I didn't like the not up to date language which I guess could be overlooked but when is this level of interest in the girls' underwear and period etc ever considered okay/ normal? I didn't really get the point of why this story was told. The boys didn't really have any input since they didn't understand anything instead they went on and on about Trip and how he got popular with the girls and just randomly decided that he got sick of Lux? I feel like another person telling the story might male it more interesting instead of some neighborhood boys who are creeps and still reminisce about their "love" for the Lisbon sisters decades later.

3.5 stars!! i’m not quite sure what to make of this book but it definitely sends an important message. i just felt bored while reading it and felt like it dragged a bit in the middle. although it was satire, i also hated reading from the boys perspectives - it was so icky! can women just have periods/EXIST and not get sexualized for it please?

beautiful, sheltered girls... they had a sparkle but seeped sadness.
Very well written! More about community and adolescence in the 1970s than what you would think, but I liked the author’s writing style
