A su vez es un libro que poco a poco va degradándose, oscureciéndose así como la decadencia de las hermanas. Jeffrey escribe bien y de forma ágil y esa rareza, esa decadencia, acaba llegándote dentro a medida que vas leyendo.

unfortunately, boys will be boys. including the author. struggled to read this knowing the idea of the book was boys romanticizing women for their own pleasure. like, we know this. did i have to read an entire book about this? no. did i? unfortunately yes. and yes, that is my own fault.
edit: i really enjoyed the way in which the book was written and how the words flowed like poetry. for that i gave it 3 stars.

This book was good but quite dense. I saw a lot of the other reviews say the narrator was a voyuer, but that's sort of the point. The girls in this book were never treated by of the other characters as humans except maybe by the old Greek grandma. People confused them, mixed up their names etc multiple times throughout the book. The boys seek to understand the girls but they can never truly understand them as they never really tried to know them. Even the reader does not know the girls and learns more about the other neighbors than the presumed subject of the story. They were treated like dolls including by their mother who kept them locked up to be preserved . It's not really a wonder for the reader that these girls took their lives, but the book seems to imply that all lives are bleak, unsatisfactory and filled with some level of unhappiness.
