SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE MOVIE. Loved it. I had seen the movie many times and was hesitant to read the book because I didn't think it would be that much different. Thank you to Stacy for encouraging me to read it.

First of all, Danny is way more interesting in the book. They explore his clairvoyance pretty deeply, which they only really touch on in the movie. Jack's character development is awesome too. You feel like you are actually witnessing his transformation as the hotel takes control. And I hate Shelley Duvall, she's such a twit, but I actually liked Wendy in the book. Another plus in my opinion, you get a lot more history about the Overlook in the book.

I have to say, scariest scene in the book for me hands down is when Jack goes to 217 to investigate. Oh. My. God. Number two for me would have to be when Danny is at the playground with the cement tubes and the hedge animals. I will never look at hedge animals the same way again.

So I read and watch horror quite a bit and I'm not easily scared, but this book scared the bejeezus out of me. HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who is a fan of horror.
