What a great little book!! A debut fantasy, it didn’t disappoint. Even though it was short and I personally would have liked more character development and location description, I understand why it was written the way it was. It was quick, intelligent, expected the reader to keep up, and completely delivered despite its brevity. The story had great action and characters. I like the ending as well. I look forward to more from this author.

the writing itself is kinda messy and i have some issues with the pacing (and there were some really abrupt and unclear scene changes, which may have been a formatting thing??). but this made me cry repeatedly and the story itself is so good that i have to give it 4*.

I'm notoriously picky about novellas and I cannot get over how perfect this was?

Usually I'm left wanting so much more and yet this was 99 pages with an entire world packed in from start to finish. The concept is so unique and executed so well. It is hopeful and devastating within the space of two pages and I honestly don't know how so much emotion was dumped on me in such a short time.

Truly the best novella I've ever read, and I don't say that lightly.
