DNF 109 pages because I was bored and needed to return it to the library. Also, what kind of psycho wears a thong to bed?!

While it starts out with a strong premise, it ends up with a disappointing plot with an ending that doesn’t wind up close to feeling scary or unsettling. More like an additional pages were cut from the story and an abrupt ending was added in. The character motivations between the two protagonists go nowhere and their banter was the most unrealistic I’ve read in a while. A plot being simple is fine, but there’s no anchor to any of the characters within it. The author seems so fixated on getting to the “reveal” that it ends up feeling like you’ve spent no time to care about them. Wish the potential could have been pushed more in this but thankfully, there are other books that are better written in this genre that can deliver.

It starts with a quote by amber tamblyn and, like, maybe she’s an acclaimed writer now but I don’t know that and only know her from sisterhood of the traveling pants so it was a bit jarring to see. Then also I hated how the book was written but that’s just a me thing.

MC Kate is insufferable. Author often epeats phrases and descriptions, not as imaginatio immersement but as filler words. Not thrilling. Slow moving. Narrators were not great.
