If Hunt for Red October and Salem's lot had a baby. I loved it. Great read.

Vampires on a submarine!?!? What a wonderful and different premise. The author did an amazing job creating the tension of the hunter prey in a small space like a submarine.

Beware of Hawaiian brothels! This novel left me pleasantly surprised. Entertaining horror and suspense about an "infestation" aboard a U.S. Navy submarine during the Cold War.

Its greatest strength is the detailed description of the submarine...felt like I was actually aboard one while listening. Good job!

Clever concept, but the writing was flat. It felt like someone checking off the steps on a list of “how to plot a novel” for new writers. I made it 3/4 through because the conceit remained interesting and all of the facts about life on a submarine were also fascinating (either the writers have served on a submarine or did a lot of research). But around 3/4, it devolved into a lot of bloody splatter and all the previous psychological horror went out the window.

When you don’t even care enough to keep reading and see if the remaining survivors can figure out how to surface the submarine and escape the vampires while in the midst of Russian waters (which SHOULD be enough tension to keep anyone turning the pages), you know the book has failed. Others may feel differently, but I just couldn’t be bothered to care about any of the characters. Did not finish.

This book gets straight to the point: Vampires in a submarine. It’s a simple, bloody plot that delivers entertainment, though not much else.

The plot essentially follows the exact premise: a group of American naval officers are trapped underwater with a vampire slowly turning the crew into vampires. There isn’t a huge mystery or secret, just the basics before getting to the action.

The characters don’t have a ton of depth, most of them having a single layer to themselves or perhaps a minor backstory, none of which really serves the plot.

Still, this is a book to read if you like a simple books filled with bloody vampire chaos.

Very different take on vampires.

I enjoyed the book. While I am not familiar with the layout of a sub, I do know they have cramped quarters. The book did an incredible job of creating a dark and claustrophobic atmosphere

An unaware crewman of a U.S nuclear submarine brings vampirism aboard. The infection slowly spreads and the vampires numbers grow. Slowly blacking out the submarine and leaving the remaining crewman in the dark, miles below the ocean surface and within enemy waters. The crew left in utter confusion, darkness and suspense.

It is such a brilliant idea and sadly this book tells it in the most generic and boring way. This was a real struggle to finish as the title doesn't do anything good nor does it do anything terribly. It's such a waste of potential and that ultimately turned me against this book. Truly disappointing.
The best part of the book for me was watching the crew navigate enemy waters after having just found a new class of enemy submarines. The crew have no idea if they have been spotted or heard and must slowly leave the area without detection. It was tense, it had suspense and somehow accomplished everything you'd think the book would do and yet it had nothing to do with the enemy on board...Vampires.

It's not terrible, it's not great. I can't recommend it.
Really disappointing.
