Great nonfiction picture book with a nice story for younger readers and comprehensive author notes for those looking to learn a little more. Recommended for pre school and up.

Thank you Libro.fm and Penguin Random House Audio for the audiobook.

This beautiful picture book features work from different illustrators to accompany a poem by the author, Kelly Yang. Each page spread introduces different Asian American groups or individuals that have had an impact in American history, and the book includes paragraph-length bios of them in the back.

My main critique is that the text is missing multiple commas. This bothered me from a grammatical perspective, but it also bothered me from a reader's perspective, since commas are visual cues for rhythm. Someone who is reading this aloud to children will want to take a run-through to make sure they're confident in how to pace and emphasize different phrases.

This reminded me of Undefeated. It covers a lot of historical and current Asian Americans who have made an impact on politics, sports, social justice, and so many more areas. The text is more abstract, but works powerfully with the pictures to tell the story of these people, and back matter gives further bios. I really liked the various art styles and artists who contributed to the work--it added interest with the variety of imagery throughout.

This book is beyond phenomenal! I love the variety of artists and illustrators showcased in this book, and that every one of them is Asian. I was somewhat familiar with most of the people featured in this book, but learned more about every one of them. While each page includes just a sentence or two of text, an author's note at the end provides fascinating detail for each person.
