Each story was vivid, gripping. There's even one that "engaged" me to a certain extent. I'll leave you guessing as to what it was and to what degree. Haha.

Just like how some stories here - my favorite ones, in fact - would leave you hanging, encouraging you to fill in the rest of the story, or maybe let it linger in your mind (because, heck, why did it end that way?) for a few minutes (or even a day) before you turn to the next story.

The "... Dismantling of Metro Manila" for me is the most intriguing; the last one, "Cross", is brilliantly written. Each one is memorable, actually, because of the scenes or images that would stick with you. Just look at the book cover, and the story represented by each person (or object) would automatically play out in your brain.

My friendship with the author notwithstanding, I enjoyed the book because it was genuinely a good read.
