I enjoyed this book so I feel like my rating is a little harsh, I just didn't enjoy it that much. Romance probably just isn't my genre.

Usually, I can go with a gut feeling on my ratings, but this one was very difficult. The thing is, I did not particularly enjoy The Price of Salt. I saw too much of myself in the book. Yet, I must admit it is well-written to make me feel so frustrated, and I can't say I regret reading it.

I liked the movie a lot, but the book left me cold. I actually struggled to read it and could never get into it. It felt so remote and distant. Therese seemed more obsessed with the idea of Carol than in love with the real person, and Carol was often so awful or indifferent to Therese that it made me angry. It felt like an unhealthy relationship, and thus hard to root for.
