I found myself unable to emotionally connect with the main characters. The Stranger's plot and characters seem to only serve the purpose of demonstrating Albert Camus' arguments in favor of existentialist philosophy. I think this book should have been published as non-fiction so that readers don't have to endure the unbearably unlikeable and sad sack story of Meursault.

I honestly don't know what to make of this book. As a big fan of Camus' absurdism philosophy, I was really interested in what this book might be like. My conclusion is that this might be one of the strangest things I've read, but in a way oddly human because of it. I can't decide if I loved it or hated it, therefore leaving it at 3 stars. One thing is for sure though, it stuck in my mind and made me contemplate its implications and, especially, the lack thereof. Which might be exactly the point.

Que a la mayoría de la gente le pase de noche el crimen de odio y la misoginia para admirarle la escritura a este vato... la verdad es que no me sorprende.

(possible spoilers?)

quick read; it was an okay book - I was somewhat invested and was very curious to know what happened at the end and once the protagonist left the funeral, I had much more interest in the story. the protagonist, though, is such a vile human being. being neutral in the face of familial death, murder, domestic abuse, animal abuse, generalized violence (and so on)… a disgusting man, truly. so was his ‘pal’. the philosophical content was good, but god was that man insufferable. and not even in an interesting way either! I read about truly awful characters all the time but he was shitty and boring, like pick a struggle!
