I didn't think this was as good as the first, but it did get better towards the end and it was pretty good overall. It picks up a few months after the last book, and the group is attempting the survive in the badlands. I really like the other members of the group, even though we don't really know that much about them. I liked finding out more about Finn and Maddock, and Pandemonia was really interesting, however I think it was neutralised far too quickly and easily.

But I started finding Nina really annoying. I know I don't have much of a heart, but I had a problem with how she was so desperate to help Mellie, no matter how much it was an inconvenience for anathema. Because the rest of group wanted to stay together as they are stronger, they basically ended up doing whatever Nina wanted. I especially hated how they joined a new group of people for Nina's ulterior motive. She also caused the group to fall into another trap, and I think she makes too many rash decisions which affect others and she doesn’t own up to her actions.

When I was given the option to take part in the blog tour I jumped at the chance. Although I haven't read all of Rachel's books, I am a big fan of what I have read, and I couldn't wait to make a start on The Flame Never Dies. I needed to know what happened next for Anathema, how would this group survive in the badlands, and would they find a soul for Melanie's baby. This is a spoiler free review of this book, it's more my feelings than the plot itself.

The Stars Never Rise was an amazing book, and I honestly wondered how Rachel was going to top it, how was she going to continue on this world but keep up wanting more. After finishing The Flame Never Dies I really don't know why I questioned it.

I devoured the pages of The Flame Never Dies, eager to see what fortune would meet the characters I had grown to love. I didn't expect to be tricked, to be lulled into a false sense of security and have my hopes shattered, to cry both happy and sad tears over the same incident. The twist, turns, and surprises kept me on my toes for the entire journey with Anathema, and right up to the last few chapters I had no idea how it would all end.

The Flame Never Dies is a book that lives up to it's predecessor, and also ends in a circle I didn't see coming. Hopefully we get to join Anathema on another adventure soon, and get to return to the circle and claim what is rightfully theirs. I just found out there is no more, that this is a two book series.

Final Verdict
I loved every single thing about The Flame Never Dies and I really do hope we get to see another book in this series.

This book was so good and I wish this series didn't end. Like could there just be surprise third book so that this didn't have to end up being a duology. Or at least a spin off series where we get to see Adam all grown up?!? If there is one, then I apologize because I should have done my research. If there isn't then there should be.

I loved everything about The Flame Never Dies. I was so happy to see all of the characters again, even Devi. She seemed less annoying/bitchy to me in this book but that could be due to the fact that I just cared more about everyone else.

Warning: Spoilers are below!

SpoilerThere were some twists and turns that definitely threw me for a loop but it also gave me a ton of questions. Some times I just kept asking why the character never knew someone was a demon - like weren't the exorcists supposed to automatically know when someone was a demon and not their normal self anymore?!? Or did that all change once they completed the transition?!?

Also Grayson going through the transition was awesome. I'm glad she is one of them now. She also had some scary life threatening moments that definitely made me scream out of panic.

Overall, I loved the ending and everything written throughout this book. I did think it was kind of funny that Finn finally got his body just like Wanda from The Host got her own body. I totally called it and I was very happy with myself.

I feel like I need to find more books written from Rachel Vincent next year because this series was so freaking good. I need more.

This was an unusual book for me, and I found it a little hard to connect with the characters because I felt that the fast pace of the whole book prevented me from getting to know the characters more intimately. But it was well written and entertaining.

So where to start with this book. This book has my main buzz word: DEMONS

Granted in this story the Demons are still evil, but regardless, I love books that bring demon folklore and ideas into them. For me this sequel and conclusion to the duology was not as strong as the first. The first book drew me in with the amazing world building and intricacies of the world. I fell in love with Nina, Finn, and their motley group of misfit exorcists. I loved seeing more of the group together all sticking up for each other.

That being said, this book to me seemed more rushed and not as exciting as the first. I didn’t feel the same pull as I did with the first. However, there were still plot points I did not see coming. And with that came certain aspects that were beyond obvious from the start...

And then that ending! Who ends a duology like that? While there was some resolution, it was not nearly enough for me. There definitely is no need for another book, but i needed a chapter or two more to tie everything up. You cannot just leave the bombshell of an epilogue like was done and expect me to be okay with that.

I honestly started reading this unknowing it was a duo and thinking it wrapped up quite nicely. There was action, like in the first book, but I couldn't help wanting to scream at Nina and her crew to be more careful about possessions. It all ended pretty tied up in a little bow for the main characters. Some of it was unsurprising such as Finn getting an exorcists body and the baby surviving, but the virus was a nice twist.
