Heavvvvvvy on the historical fiction here. I feel like Abé does a fine job of dropping us instantly into the period of the piece. The descriptions had my mind seeing everything so clearly. I do feel like any dialogue between Jack and Madeleine was rushed or almost not enough!! The age was obviously so insane that it almost didn’t matter lol but they were freaks back then I guess? Even knowing what the ending is (spoiler alert the Titanic sunk) I found myself hoping for something different. I really do wonder what her life would’ve been like had Jack survived. Gah it’s heartbreaking but overall a great read for any history nerds out there hehe!

I thought it was a thoughtful and well researched. It kind dragged in the middle. I think it was trying to establish their love story. But I kept thinking 18 and 47 - gross. I know, different times, but still.

I think I wanted this to be another book. I thought that the book was going to be about what happened after Titanic. What she had to endure from the media and high society. I was at 80% before Titanic even happened. I enjoyed the story but probably would not have picked this if I knew what the focus was going to be. I did not give the rating based on what I thought the book was going to be. I do think the writing was good, but for me there was just not enough interesting events leading up to Titanic and certainly not after. Did not feel like I learned anything about her or the time period. Molly Brown was of course the best part of the book.

I reallly like this book. I was absolutely devastated to find out it is a true store and just how accurate most of it was and I loved the writing style!

Sweet story of love amid the tragedy of the titanic. I
Loved it !

This is a love story followed by a tragedy. The first half focuses on 17 yo Madeleine Force falling in love with divorced 40-something yo John Jacob Astor IV, the richest man in the world at the time.

Her struggles include paparazzi, a sullen step-don, and NY dutch aristocracy, who see her as an upstart.  At times it feels too much love  not enough struggle. But the trip home from Europe on the maiden voyage of the Titanic, raises the stakes.
