mulan is my absolute favourite movie and disney princess so seeing direct lines from the movie (and a reference to mulan 2) made me so freaking happy!!!! also, mulan is such a strong and smart character, we STAN. no one is doing it like her. no one.

It was kinda boring but I liked the ending! But that's just bc I've always shipped Mulan and Shang. Dragged on for longer than I woulda liked, but there was some good character development for Mulan which I appreciated, it was all pretty realistic and understandable. 3.5.

While this one has a couple of spots in the pacing that feel haphazard and weak to me, I really enjoyed this particular tale. It was interesting to see more use of Chinese mythology here, and I feel like this is a worthy side story or alternate story to the events of the Disney film Mulan.  I absolutely appreciate the way Li Shang is written in this book as well, as I feel like he got more character depth and exploration here and it was quite nice to see!
