A beautifully assembled narrative about the impossibility of navigating a crumbling world. Are you on the right side of the river. Do you understand what is happening elsewhere? Are real conversations even possible when everyone around you can't quite face the world? What does it mean to be a mother, in some form, amongst all of that?

I found the prose excellent, and the structure worked beautifully for the story. Once you finish it, reread the first section/chapter again.

An excellent translation and I'm tempted to go back and read it in the original German now.
