Book club book. This is a good romance/mystery. It's got all the things and is easy to read/listen to.
I hate when the book has no end or even worse when it ends with a cliffhanger but it was not clear that we are reading the first one of a series.

Well written- amazing what someone can create in their "spare" time!
3.5 stars — the ending was too abrupt for me! The story moved slowly at first, but I liked the characters’ backstories and the murder mystery element. I could tell that an attorney wrote this romance novel because I had to look up some of the legal terms used. I feel invested enough to read the other books in the series, though.
Great blend of mystery/thriller and romance. Not much of the mystery was resolved, though, and the HEA felt like things moved too fast.

To be fair, romance isn't something I read a whole lot of, and when I do it's usually a historical or spec-fic MM (such as [a:K.J. Charles|7123498|K.J. Charles|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1418032373p2/7123498.jpg] or [a:X. Aratare|5293465|X. Aratare|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]). But this contemporary MF romantic suspense novel was written by the incomparable Stacey Abrams, so I gave it a shot. Unfortunately, as I half-expected, it was a chore to get through. The prose is adequate but nothing special and maybe I'm being puritanical, but reading a sex scene written by a politician is really awkward. So yeah, dud.

I enjoyed the characters in this book and the way that they are written. I also felt the plot was interesting and unique. I feel like the whole murder thing was secondary though to the past and we never really found out all of what happened with Kell and her friends when they were younger. It also ended abruptly. I would want to read more to find out what happened in the past but I think there are so many things left unanswered in this book.
