Good enough story and writing, but, sheesh…the story didn’t get resolved at all. “Here: here’s half a book. You’ll have to buy a second, maybe even a third, to know whodunnit…and what they dun.” And now I find out it’s a trilogy, but only two books were even written. Plus the weird Coca-Cola mentions — I hope the paid product placement was worth it.

If John Grisham wrote a romance novel with a strict maximum page count limit.

3 1/2 stars

Good pacing, I actually cared about the characters and wanted to know more. I am interested to see where this story takes us!

This book is the first in an uncompleted trilogy, which I was not aware of when I started it. Nowhere on the book does it indicate it is part of a series, the only clue is the cliffhanger at the end. There is a book two but there's no book three because Stacey Abrams got too busy saving democracy, I guess (which is awesome, but now this story is incomplete).

Fast pace romance/thriller vibes, I need to go out and get deception as the story continues. This won’t be my last time reading a book by Stacey Abrams.

I chose this book because it was written by Stacey Abrams, who I admire, but it was one of the worst books I have read. The plot is silly, the mystery is confusing and poorly fleshed out and the ending is less than satisfying.

DNF. I shouldn't read older romances. The hero pulls over the heroine for an almost made up offense and uses the occasion to ask her out. I kept reading for a while, but the couple only seem to disrespect each other but we're told (not shown) they have chemistry.

I thought the mystery parts of this worked much better than the romance. Montgomery (aka Stacey Abrams) is very good at building up dramatic tension and crafting the puzzle pieces that make up the central mystery but the romance between Kell and Luke is significantly less compelling. I just didn't believe that they were in love by the end of the book.
