Loved the writing. The pacing was a little slow at times but the prose kept it interesting. A fun read!

Very interesting unfolding of a story I’ve seen the differing perspectives and renditions of through the Broadway play and through the Wizard of Oz movie. The book was more different from the play than I had thought it would be and gave far more human type characteristics to fairytale characters where characters were more flawed and certain situations were due to circumstance rather than intent. Overall didn’t love the book but also didn’t hate it. Happy I read it before seeing the new movie that just came out.

I know it’s a classic, but this dragged on and on. Eventually it just felt like a theology lecture reprinted in different contexts.

I wasn’t looking forward to reading this as a huge lover of the musical. I’d also read some pretty damming reviews. It is wildly different to the musical/ film story. However, if you read it as it is, and don’t make any comparisons it’s actually enjoyable. It can be quite heavy in places and a bit obscure, but I think it adds to its charm and quirks. If you were expecting the fairytale story this isn’t it, it’s dark bit like the Grimm stories actually.
