I haven’t watched the musical or the movie. That made this book a fun twist on the original Wizard of Oz for me.

This is a really fun one. It’s so much darker than the show obviously and is so different too. I still think the show has issues, but I really enjoyed the increased focus on political issues in the book. The show has these aspects too, but I like how we get to see Elphie develop more than in the show. Lots of characters who are just completely different from in the show. Entertaining read with lots of implications. I enjoy it as an enjoyer of Wicked and find it interesting to see how it fits between the show and the original Wizard of Oz.

Absolutely loved the first half or so. Really weird and creepy and gross in many ways which is right up my alley. Characters are complicated and odd. Lost a bit of steam once it actually started trying to tie the plot in with the Wizard of Oz. Maybe a 3.5

Very frustrating read, some really strong chapters but others are so tedious and such a slog to get through. When I started procrastinating so I wouldn't have to read it I knew it was time to put it down

I have to say, it was quite a difficult book to follow. The overall plotline was okay, but there many parts that I just could not concentrate on. Other parts the book went so fast it hardly had an impact, which was strange.
