Considering I'm not a fan of fantasy or the Wizard of Oz, I found this an engaging and well-written book. I'd go so far as to promote it as a coming-of-age political thriller set in a fantastical world.

I read this book in 7th grade and loved it. I read it again at 30 and it was just as good. Such a dark story, had me on the edge of my seat. Hell of a musical.

Meandering, principled, imaginative. I first read this book before going to see the original Broadway production of Wicked. It was a tough read, somewhat meandering and not too tightly focused. But still, for the many themes it brings up - prejudice, justice, the search for power, the nature of good & evil - it's well worth a read.
People who claim that they’re evil are usually no worse than the rest of us… it’s people who claim they’re good, or any way better than the rest of us, that you have to be wary of.
