The Best Of: Angel & Spike #10

1. Kate Lockley (who I know is a divisive Angel character but whom I love dearly and want better for) not being here for any of Angel's ****.

2. The coloring by Roman Titov is particularly great in this issue. The colors when Angel falls? Splendid!

3. Spike's sass when Angel insists they couldn't have helped. "There's nothing you could have done." "Getting our arses kicked? We could have done that."

4. Spike actually taking charge and insisting Angel organize this operation, assigning roles to Fred and Gunn very accurately based on what he has learned about them. I love to see a Spike that takes charges and actually notices things about people! Also, the role he assigns himself? "I'm moral support. Everyone loves my conscience." Perfect!

5. Fred and Gunn convincing Spike that he has to go talk to Angel and Spike's response.
You're a vampire. You know vampire bad mood stuff." "You know what? That I do. Put the kettle on, will you, lovelies?" This is the content I need: the gang insisting Spike and Angel have to talk about feelings and Spike calling them lovelies and asking them to make tea in the meantime.

6. ANGEL AND SPIKE HAVING A HEART TO HEART! A PHILOSPHICAL DEBATE, IF YOU WILL? I AM HERE FOR IT.

7. "But you know what? This ridiculous quest you have to make up for whatever you think you owe the world... I respect the attempt. Whether it works or not. But it won't work if you don't stop feeling sorry for yourself and start reminding whatever you're fighting that they should be scared of you."

8. Spike immediately being exhausted by this pep talk. "That's as much hero talk as I have for the rest of the year. Get it together, savior. Evil against evil... and keep the good from dying young."

9. Kate already being so done with Angel and the literal children he has working for him. Also, Gunn knowing Kate's reputation of helping street kids and wanting to help her in return.

10. "Does being a cop make you like this, or are people like you the ones that become cops?" I know Gunn means this as a compliment, but in our current climate this feels like a weirdly relevant statement about who our police is.
