This book is quite complex. The relationship that Connel and Marianne have is painful to read about. Don’t go into this thinking it will end with sunshine and rainbows. It is obvious that both characters needed serious help. Other than that, I would say that the narrating style was a bit odd, the narrator was third person and at times seemed to be limited and other times omniscient. I didn’t quite enjoy the book, the idea that relationships between people can change their overal character and personality is explored wonderfully, however, it does feel like some of the scenes central ideas are repeated (even though this may have advanced the plot, it was hard to read). I think that the character growth felt sudden instead of gradual buildup.

The book was very character driven and there wasn't an obvious plot but for me who's nosy into other people's lives, I didn't find it unenjoyable. I'll move onto watching the BBC series now :)

I thoroughly enjoyed the way this story was told and the fact that there were no quotation marks. I personally found Marianne irritating a lot of the time. Also, I wasn't pleased with the way it ended, it was a bit abrupt and not exactly satisfying.

I read this book for the first time somewhen last year. Didn't enjoy it much, thought it was boring and way too sexual & I then even proceeded to sell it.

Out of curiosity though I recently bought it once again, because I've been really into contemporary adult-novel stuff. And wow, I am positively surprised.

Not gonna lie, it's still too sexual for me, but this time I was able to look past that and explore the message behind it, observe the lives of two people unable to go their seperate ways, their lifelines intertwining in unexpected and unforgiving ways.
This book dealt with several topics, some of which include mental illness and modern relationships.
Normal People is wise in a sterile way, unpredictable and really hits you with the reality of life and growing up. Not an easy book, but when is the truth ever easy?

People can really change one another.

Looking forward to reading Beautiful World, Where Are You
